  • In this article, you will learn how to create a wire jewelry clasp that you can use for a variety of projects, including necklaces and bracelets. You will not need very many materials or tools. Just make sure that you have the basics, such as round-nose pliers, an anvil and a wooden hammer in order to harden the metal wire. S-clasp 1. The first step is to start creating the first loop. If you are familiar with the S clasp, you may already know that there are two curlicues that are as useful as they are decorative. Create the first loop by curving the wire around one "head" or "nose." Make sure that you are using dead-soft wire if this is the first time you are working with wire. Dead-soft wire is easier to work with when you have little experience working with wire. 2. Now,Tiffany Return to Tiffany Pendants, create the curves that will form the "S" shape of the clasp. Bend the wire that is closest to the loop that you have just formed so that you have one large curve. Then, bend the other side of the wire so that you create a curve that is facing the opposite direction. Your wire should now look like a figure 8 or an infinity symbol. 3. The third step is to create the last loop so that it looks like the first loop that you made. You can do this by cutting off the rest of the wire,Return to Tiffany Bracelets, leaving just enough of the end to create the last loop. If you leave the rest of the wire, you will be able to gauge how much wire you will need to make a complete loop. I would suggest leaving the rest of the wire until you form the loop. 4. Before you can use your clasp, you must harden it because you are using dead-soft wire. Use your hammer to flatten the wire until you have reached your desired look. You can create texture by hammering using the edges of the hammer. If you would like to create a simpler clasp, create a loop for one end of the bracelet or necklace and then create a hook for the other end. You can create the hook by completing steps 1-2 of the S clasp instructions. Then, polish off the end of the hook so that it is not sharp. Use the loop to connect this hook to the end of the bracelet/necklace.
